HOUSTON, TX – The search continues for answers after a 23-year-old man was fatally shot near a METRO bus stop in north Houston on Saturday night, leaving his family and coworkers grappling with grief and uncertainty.
Nicholas Hood, who worked as a barber at a nearby shop, was found dead just steps away from Jackson’s Barbershop on North Main Street. The crime has stunned those who knew him, as investigators try to piece together who is responsible for taking his life.
Colleagues remember Hood as a caring individual who frequently gave back to the community. On the day of the shooting, Hood had spent time at the barbershop, reportedly providing complimentary haircuts to people experiencing homelessness. Coworkers said his positive spirit and generosity set him apart.
Authorities say the incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m., when Hood was at the bus stop, reportedly on a FaceTime call with his girlfriend. Police believe Hood was approached by someone during the call. The conversation initially appeared routine until Hood suddenly fled. Moments later, he was found fatally shot near the bus stop. His girlfriend, using a phone tracker, located him at the scene.
The circumstances around the shooting have left friends and family shaken. One coworker described Hood as well-mannered and highly regarded among his peers, emphasizing the shock felt by those who worked closely with him over the past six months. The coworker recalled Hood’s habit of writing positive affirmations in his notebooks and his optimism for the future.
Police have not released any information regarding a potential suspect or a possible motive in the killing. The absence of leads has compounded the anguish for Hood’s loved ones, who now seek justice and closure.
Though too distraught to speak publicly, Hood’s girlfriend was present shortly after the tragedy unfolded. Those close to the victim expressed hope that information will come to light and those responsible will be held accountable.
Community members said Hood’s loss has left a noticeable void, particularly at the barbershop where he had quickly become part of the close-knit staff. Coworkers said his legacy of kindness and service to others will not soon be forgotten.
Houston police urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact the homicide division or Crime Stoppers. Investigators continue to follow up on any available leads in hopes of bringing answers to Hood’s family and the community.
