30-year-old Michigan woman killed and dismembered by ex-boyfriend who throws her out in the trash

WARREN, MI – Authorities have charged a Michigan man with the murder of his former girlfriend after investigators found evidence linking him to the crime scene. Deandre Booker, 32, now faces multiple serious charges, including first-degree murder, following the disappearance of Ashley Elkins, 30.

Elkins, a mother of two, was reported missing on January 2 after she failed to return from errands. Her vehicle was discovered shortly after, but there was no sign of her whereabouts, prompting a broader investigation.

According to a police affidavit, a search of Booker’s residence uncovered a significant amount of blood in the bathroom, identified through DNA testing as belonging to Elkins. Despite the extensive search, Elkins’ remains have not been located, leaving her family in distress.

Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office stated Booker is also charged with tampering with evidence, dismembering a body, and concealing a death. Initially, he was charged with lying to police as he allegedly misled officers during their inquiry into Elkins’ disappearance.

Investigators conducted a thorough search of Booker’s apartment complex and nearby areas, including a landfill, to gather additional evidence. While they have found crucial clues, the absence of Elkins’ body remains a pressing concern for her loved ones.

During a vigil held in Elkins’ memory, her family spoke of their desire to find her remains and afford her a proper burial. “We need closure,” said her cousin, Taylor Redmond, reflecting the family’s persistent hope to lay Ashley to rest with dignity.

Maurice Morton, Elkins’ uncle, expressed his despair over the situation, emphasizing the family’s heartache. “Her mother often says, ‘He discarded her like trash,'” Morton said, highlighting the emotional toll on the family.

A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to support Elkins’ two sons, aged 10 and 7. Described as having big dreams, the fund aims to assist her children as they navigate life without their mother, ensuring they receive the care and opportunities their mother hoped to provide.

Booker is currently held in Macomb County Jail, with his bail set at $250,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
