53-year-old Utah woman killed by ex-boyfriend who puts body in bags in shed that smells of decomposition

SPRINGVILLE, UT – A Utah man faces murder charges after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend, concealing her remains in a trash bag, and stashing the body in a shed near his residence.

The suspect, Arthuro Carrion, 53, is accused in the death of Lesa Hyde, who was last seen in late December. Authorities began their search for Hyde following a press release issued by the Springville Police Department on January 29, seeking information regarding her welfare and location.

Carrion was initially identified by police as a person of interest in Hyde’s disappearance. The situation escalated when a witness contacted Provo police on Sunday, reporting the discovery of a body in a shed located behind an apartment complex on Heather Lane. According to a probable cause affidavit, the caller implicated Carrion in the crime.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement found two sheds in the backyard and Carrion situated in the front yard. Officers reported that when they requested the key to one of the sheds, Carrion allegedly admitted the presence of a “dead body” inside.

When the shed was opened, authorities noted a distinct odor of decomposition and discovered human remains, including a forearm, within several bags.

Detectives gathered further information from the witness who reported that Carrion had summoned him over on Saturday and confessed to having “done something wrong,” making a veiled reference to “Lesa” while directing attention toward the sheds.

Carrion was subsequently apprehended and reportedly expressed regret for confiding in the witness, whom he referred to disparagingly. Additional witnesses claimed to have overheard Carrion mentioning that he “pulled a Rick,” alluding to a relative who allegedly killed his partner, as outlined in the affidavit.

During the arrest, when informed he was charged with murder, Carrion allegedly blamed a previous incident involving Officer Andrews, citing it as a catalyst for the current charges. Officer Andrews had previously arrested Carrion on November 19 for domestic violence against Hyde.

Carrion remains incarcerated at the Utah County Jail, held without bail as the investigation continues.
