Chicago, IL – The Chicago Bears made a bold move yesterday by trading the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft to the Carolina Panthers for multiple picks and wide receiver D.J. Moore.
Sources say that the trade was facilitated by Ryan Poles, the Bears’ director of player personnel. Poles had been working to find the right deal for the team, and he finally settled on one that would bring in a proven player in Moore and a host of future draft picks.
The move is seen as a huge win for the Bears, who have struggled to find consistent success in recent years. Moore, a former first-round pick, was one of the most dynamic players in the league last season, recording 66 catches for 1,193 yards and four touchdowns.
The Bears’ acquisition of Moore also ranks highly in team history, with the receiver’s career statistics matching up favorably against some of the franchise’s greatest players.
Chicago coach Dave Wannstedt was also quick to react and praise the Bears’ front office for the move. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Wannstedt said that he was “thrilled” with the trade and that he believes it will give the team a much-needed boost.
With the draft just weeks away, the Bears will now focus on shoring up other areas of the team, including the offensive line and defense. But with Moore now in the fold, the future looks bright for the franchise.
