Botulism Alert: Hundreds of Canned Coffee Products Recalled Over Potential Deadly Toxin Risk from Wisconsin-based Snapchill LLC

Green Bay, Wisconsin – Hundreds of canned coffee products are being recalled over concerns of potential botulism contamination, sparking alarm among consumers nationwide. The Food and Drug Administration recently issued a warning regarding the products produced by Snapchill LLC, a company based in Wisconsin.

Snapchill LLC is voluntarily recalling more than 250 canned coffee products that were distributed across the country to various roasters and vendors, as well as sold online to consumers. The FDA expressed worry over the company’s manufacturing practices, citing a failure to notify the agency of the low acid method used in producing the goods. This method poses a risk of growth and contamination of the potentially deadly botulinum toxin.

Botulism, a type of food poisoning, can result from ingesting the toxin and can lead to symptoms such as weakness, dizziness, double vision, abdominal distress, and difficulty breathing, speaking, or swallowing. Symptoms can manifest within hours to weeks after exposure and require urgent medical attention as botulism can be fatal if left untreated.

Despite no reported illnesses linked to Snapchill coffee and the company’s lack of awareness of contamination, a significant number of products have been recalled as a precautionary measure. Retail can sizes ranging from 7 oz to 12 oz under various brand names are affected. To identify Snapchill-manufactured cans, consumers should look for the label “Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC” under the nutrition facts panel on the packaging, according to the FDA.

Customers impacted by the recall are advised to dispose of the canned goods or return them to Snapchill or the point of purchase. The company is offering refunds to customers providing proof of purchase and a picture of the recalled products. The safety of consumers is a top priority, and swift action is being taken to address the potential health risks associated with the contaminated canned coffee products.
