San Francisco, California – Elon Musk, the prominent figure behind X, raised concerns on Monday about a significant cyberattack that led to widespread outages on the social media platform, affecting thousands of users.
Musk stated that X had been facing an ongoing cyberattack, noting the scale of the assault to be substantial. He hinted at the involvement of either a significant, organized group or even a country backing the attack.
In a subsequent interview with Fox Business, Musk pointed towards IP addresses in Ukraine linked to the alleged attack. However, cybersecurity experts cautioned against jumping to conclusions regarding the attack’s origin solely based on IP addresses.
At its peak, approximately 40,000 users reported difficulties accessing X during the outage, which hit around 10 a.m. US East Coast time on Monday. The number of affected users fluctuated throughout the day before eventually subsiding.
X, previously known as Twitter, has struggled with technical issues since Musk took over the platform in 2022, continuously facing challenges in maintaining seamless service for its users.
Despite Musk’s claims and the disruption caused by the cyberattack, investigations are ongoing to determine the true source behind the security breach, highlighting the vulnerability of online platforms to such malicious activities.
