Despite Tester’s concerns, Garcetti’s nomination ultimately received enough votes to pass.

Garcetti was confirmed in a 50-48 vote, with all Republicans voting in favor and almost all Democrats voting against. The vote marks the end of a contentious confirmation process in which Democrats criticized Garcetti for his handling of the city’s homelessness crisis and his close ties to big corporations.

As Ambassador to India, Garcetti will be responsible for strengthening ties between the US and India on trade, security, and socio-economic issues.
