Florida woman shoots her father during custody exchange with younger siblings

CLEARWATER, FL – A Florida woman’s alleged attempt to kill her father outside a sheriff’s office during a child custody exchange has led to charges of attempted first-degree murder, according to local authorities.

Detectives in Pinellas County report that 28-year-old Gabriella Nascimento approached her father, Rogerio Nascimento, and shot him in the back on Sunday morning.

The incident unfolded outside the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Administration Building, where Rogerio was meeting his estranged wife for the exchange of their four minor children.

At approximately 9:04 a.m., Rogerio Nascimento arrived at the site to meet his estranged wife. The couple shares custody of the children, three of whom were reportedly reluctant to get out of the vehicle, causing some tension during the exchange, according to police.

Gabriella Nascimento arrived separately and reportedly joined the conversation between Rogerio, his sister, and his estranged wife in the parking lot. Shortly after joining them, Gabriella allegedly brandished a semi-automatic firearm and shot her father.

In an attempt to escape, Rogerio Nascimento ran towards the sheriff’s building lobby, pursued by Gabriella, who allegedly fired a second shot that missed. Rogerio sought refuge inside, while Gabriella reportedly fell on the sidewalk, laying her gun down before deputies arrived and detained her.

The victim was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. Rogerio Nascimento remains in critical but stable condition after suffering two gunshot wounds.

Authorities in Clearwater have not disclosed a motive for the attack, leaving the reasons behind Gabriella’s actions unclear. She is currently detained at the Pinellas County Jail and is expected to make her first court appearance on Monday.
