Investigation: Person of Interest Named in Case of Missing U.S. College Student on Spring Break

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: A person of interest has emerged in the case of Sudiksha Konanki, a missing 20-year-old U.S. college student who vanished while on a spring break trip with friends. Konanki, a junior at the University of Pittsburgh studying biological sciences and chemistry, disappeared from a beach in Punta Cana after being seen near a Riu hotel in the early hours of the morning.

Konanki had traveled to Punta Cana with companions but went missing shortly after her arrival. The investigation has led to Joshua Riibe, a 22-year-old from Iowa, being named a person of interest. Authorities have noted inconsistencies in the stories shared by witnesses, including Konanki’s travel companions, prompting a closer look at the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

The search for Konanki involves a collaborative effort between U.S. and Dominican authorities, with teams utilizing various resources such as drones, helicopters, divers, and canines to cover land, air, and water in the search efforts. The University of Pittsburgh is collaborating with law enforcement agencies to gather information, including the U.S. State Department, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Administration, and local authorities.

Riu Hotels, where Konanki was staying, is cooperating with the investigation to assist in any way possible. Meanwhile, Konanki’s parents have returned to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic, hoping for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth about their daughter’s disappearance. The Loudoun County sheriff’s office has requested Interpol issue a yellow notice, an international alert for missing persons, to aid in the search for Konanki.

As speculation swirls around the case, authorities urge the public to refrain from drawing premature conclusions and emphasize the importance of conducting a thorough investigation before reaching any definitive judgments. Despite challenges posed by the involvement of U.S. tourists who have since returned home, efforts continue to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Konanki’s disappearance.
