A White police officer involved in the arrest of Tyre Nichols, an unarmed Black man, has been fired following an internal investigation into the incident.
The Memphis Police Department has also charged the officer with assault, alleging that he used a Taser on Nichols during a traffic stop. The incident, which occurred on April 17, was captured on video and sparked outrage in the community.
In response to the incident, Cincinnati joined a nationwide call to action to support Tyre Nichols. The city’s mayor and police chief participated in a virtual town hall with community leaders to discuss how to ensure justice and accountability.
Meanwhile, according to WREG NewsChannel 3, more video evidence and charges may be coming in the case.
