LOUISVILLE, KY – Two men from Kentucky are facing murder and related charges following the October 2024 discovery of a man’s body wrapped in sheets at a west Louisville intersection.

Authorities have indicted Chadwick Fleming, 35, and Davone Collins, 26, for their alleged involvement in the death of 34-year-old Mitchell Jackson. Police reported that Jackson’s body was located early on Oct. 20 at the intersection of 18th Street and West Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The body had been bound in duct tape, and a later autopsy determined Jackson died from gunshot wounds.

Investigators revealed that the remains were not just wrapped in bed linens but further secured with garbage bags, zip ties, and duct tape. During their probe, police alleged that the body had been fastened to the rear bumper of a sports utility vehicle. Detectives believe Fleming drove the SUV, dragging Jackson’s body along city roads before attempting, unsuccessfully, to reload the remains into the vehicle.

Surveillance footage obtained by law enforcement reportedly captured scenes from that night, including the vehicle stopping at the intersection and the body being left on the street by the suspect. After the initial deposit, Fleming allegedly made efforts to conceal the evidence before fleeing the scene.

Five days after the incident, officers arrested Fleming on charges related to tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. He was booked into the Louisville Metropolitan Detention Center, where his bond was set at $100,000. Authorities announced Wednesday that, following the grand jury’s decision, Fleming now faces an upgraded charge of murder alongside earlier counts.

Collins was also indicted for alleged involvement, charged with tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. While details about Collins’s specific role or his relationship to Fleming are not being disclosed, officials confirmed that he was apprehended without incident on Tuesday and is being held at the same detention facility.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear before a judge on July 28, where they will face the new and existing charges. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to clarify all circumstances surrounding Jackson’s death and the actions taken afterward.

Court documents associated with the case suggest that the suspects’ movements and handling of evidence were critical factors leading to the indictments. Detectives continue to collect statements and forensic material to build their case.
