Louisville, Kentucky — Armond Langford, 32, has been apprehended following a harrowing incident where a woman and her two young children were allegedly abducted at knifepoint. Langford, whose previous 14-year prison sentence was dramatically cut short, was taken into custody on Friday after a six-hour search by law enforcement.

The ordeal began when the woman reported that Langford forced her to drive to a bank while threatening her with a knife and demanding $20,000. Brandon Strong, the husband and father of the victims, recounted the terrifying details, noting that Langford told the children to enter the vehicle. “He held a knife at her the whole time,” Strong said, adding that his wife suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound during the incident.

Langford’s legal troubles began in 2024 when he was convicted for a series of armed robberies targeting individuals at ATMs. After serving only five months of his lengthy sentence, he was released in July 2024 by Judge Jessica Green, who granted what is known as “shock probation.” This controversial decision is designed to give offenders a sudden taste of freedom with the hope it would deter future crimes.

Judge Green, appointed by Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear in 2022, has faced significant backlash over her decision. Louisville Councilman Anthony Piagentini expressed outrage, emphasizing the unsecured nature of the community following Langford’s release. “I will find out who that judge was and seek to impeach them,” he vowed in a social media post.

Former prosecutor and defense attorney Karl Price noted that Langford was placed under strict conditions as part of his probation, including residing at his mother’s house, adhering to house rules, and undergoing random drug testing. Price expressed concern over potential failures in the supervising process, suggesting that there may have been warning signs that were overlooked before Langford’s return to the streets.

Langford now faces multiple charges, including first-degree robbery and kidnapping of both an adult and a minor, as well as first-degree assault. The police report confirmed that he allegedly held a knife to the woman’s throat, demanding money before fleeing the scene. Authorities cordoned off a nearby neighborhood and eventually located him beneath an overpass.
