Mesquite Soldier’s Family Increases Reward for Information in Murder Case

Mesquite, Texas – The family of a Mesquite soldier found murdered near the Tennessee-Kentucky line is seeking answers and justice for her death. Katia Duenas-Aguilar, a 23-year-old soldier stationed at Fort Campbell, was discovered murdered in a home in Clarksville, Tennessee on May 17. This tragic incident has left her family devastated and seeking closure.

During a press conference on Saturday, Duenas-Aguilar’s family, along with representatives from LULAC, announced their decision to increase the reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. AnaLuisa Carillo-Tapia from LULAC emphasized the importance of finding out the truth behind Duenas-Aguilar’s untimely death.

Expressing their grief, Duenas-Aguilar’s sister Cecilia Ruiz-Aguilar shared that she regrets not having more time with her sister. The family is now contributing $30,000 to expand the reward offered by LULAC, bringing the total to $55,000. This significant amount reflects their determination to seek justice and closure.

Despite the pain of losing her, Ruiz-Aguilar revealed that Duenas-Aguilar had recently made the unexpected decision to re-enlist in the Army. The family had hoped to reunite with her in May, but their plans were shattered by this tragic event. The Army’s 101st Airborne Division expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of the private first class.

As the investigation unfolds, the Army’s criminal investigation division is working alongside local authorities to uncover the truth behind Duenas-Aguilar’s death. Her family is left with unanswered questions and a deep sense of loss. They are now advocating for joint custody of Duenas-Aguilar’s 4-year-old son, adding another layer of complexity to their already painful situation.

In a quest for justice, LULAC is standing in solidarity with the family, echoing their calls for a thorough investigation and urging officials at the highest level to get involved. The family remains determined to find out what happened to Duenas-Aguilar and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Their unwavering commitment to seeking justice serves as a testament to their love for Katia Duenas-Aguilar and their desire to find closure in this difficult time.
