In a thrilling matchup between Big Ten rivals, the Iowa Hawkeyes pulled off a miraculous comeback win over the Michigan State Spartans on Tuesday night. Iowa trailed by 16 points at halftime, but a late rally led them to a 112-106 overtime victory.
Fran McCaffery was seen awkwardly staring down the referee after the game, likely due to a few controversial calls in the second half. The Hawkeyes rode a series of late 3-pointers to send the game to overtime, and ultimately stun the Spartans.
Michigan State’s loss can be attributed to an epic meltdown late in the game. Despite leading by 11 points with just over five minutes left in regulation, the Spartans were unable to hold on and close out the victory.
