TAVARES, FL – A Florida mother has been arrested, and authorities are on the hunt for her companion after an alarming hospital visit spotlighted severe child abuse allegations.
Kimberley Mills, 37, is facing serious charges after she and a man, identified as Andre Walker, 36, brought a young boy to Advent Health Waterman with grave injuries last weekend. The boy, who was not breathing upon arrival, exhibited signs of abuse, including burns and bruises in various stages of healing.
The incident occurred late Saturday night when Mills and Walker appeared at the hospital. While Mills attempted CPR on the boy, Walker rushed inside to seek emergency assistance. Medical staff immediately provided urgent care to the child.
According to the Tavares Police Department, both Mills and Walker left the hospital after learning law enforcement officials were en route, leaving the boy behind in the emergency room, still receiving life-saving treatment. Mills soon returned with another child, but Walker did not accompany her back.
Despite initial reluctance, Mills later revealed Walker’s identity to the Department of Children and Families. Authorities have now issued a warrant for Walker as an accessory after the fact in relation to the aggravated child abuse charges faced by Mills.
Investigators have since searched Mills’ residence and gathered evidence critical to the case, confirming Walker’s involvement and identity. Reports describe Walker as having a slender build, standing approximately 5’6″ tall, with distinct facial hair, including a dark mustache and a gray beard. He may be operating a silver 2022 Toyota Tacoma SR5, marked by the Florida license plate EQUU98.
Mills is currently held at the Lake County Jail with no bond. The Department of Children and Families has taken custody of her other child, ensuring their safety amid these developments. The boy remains in critical condition, and law enforcement continues to piece together the circumstances that led to his distressing state.
Authorities have yet to release a detailed account of the boy’s injuries and how they might have occurred, highlighting the sensitive and ongoing nature of the investigation.
