FESTUS, MO – A Pevely, Missouri woman faces charges of second-degree murder after a chilling confession at a local police department where she reportedly admitted to fatally shooting her daughter and drowning her son.
On May 28, authorities charged Ashley Parmeley, 36, following her unsettling admission. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office relayed that the dire events unfolded at a nearby resort in Festus, where Parmeley’s 2-year-old son was discovered lifeless in a fountain early that morning.
The sheriff’s office also noted that it is diligently inquiring into the circumstances surrounding the death of Parmeley’s 9-year-old daughter. The young girl’s body was found inside her mother’s vehicle, which was positioned at the police station where Parmeley turned herself in, drenched in water.
Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak, addressing the media, expressed the belief that the heinous acts took place on the morning of the arrest.
The community has been shaken by the loss, particularly evident at Festus School District, which acknowledged the 9-year-old as Scarlet Parmeley. An emotional homage was paid by Scarlet’s teacher, Abby Tinnin, describing her as a vivacious, thoughtful, and spirited child who eagerly engaged in classroom activities.
The grief is palpable, with Tinnin mourning the promise of the young lives cut short and conveying sympathy for the classmates and parents grappling with the tragedy.
In response to the overwhelming sorrow, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support the family during this harrowing time.
Currently, Parmeley is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without the option of bond. Her legal representation remains undetermined.
