FLOWERY BRANCH, Georgia – A woman in Georgia has been sentenced to 27 years in state prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder and other charges. Fonda Suzette Spratt, 57, took matters into her own hands when she became fed up with her neighbor’s barking dogs. The incident occurred in November 2022, when Spratt entered her neighbor’s home and fired multiple shots at the victim. Fortunately, the victim survived due to prompt medical attention.
Spratt initially faced six charges, but one count of reckless conduct was dropped and replaced with an additional count of attempted murder. She recently pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder, one count each of home invasion and criminal possession of a firearm. In addition to her prison sentence, Spratt was ordered to pay up to $2,000 in “treatment” expenses for the victim and perform 40 hours of community service.
The Flowery Branch Police Department responded to the shooting and expressed relief that the incident did not have more severe consequences. Chief Christopher Hulsey stated that the situation could have been much worse and praised the quick response of the officers. The victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was taken to a nearby hospital and has since recovered.
Residents of Flowery Branch, a quiet town in Georgia, were shocked by the violence. Terry Ryan, a local business owner who rendered aid to the victim, described the town as typically peaceful with very little crime.
Before her guilty plea, Spratt was set to go on trial in September. However, she reached a plea agreement on September 15, with a court date scheduled for October 17.
This case serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of taking matters into one’s own hands. The severity of Spratt’s charges and her lengthy prison sentence highlight the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
