New Jersey mom and her 9-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter are stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend

JERSEY CITY, NJ – A New Jersey man is accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her two young children in a tragic domestic violence incident early Thursday, according to authorities. Napoleon Romero-Anduray, 31, allegedly attacked the family in their Jersey City apartment, disturbing neighbors with their screams.

Prosecutors said the victims were identified as Luisa Urbano, 31, and her children, Juan Martino Urbano, 9, and Diana Ramirez, 5, all reportedly immigrants from Colombia. The chilling events unfolded at approximately 12:15 a.m. and were first spotted by the building’s superintendent, Luis Turcos.

Turcos, who is also Romero-Anduray’s brother-in-law, described a horrifying scene when he approached the apartment. He recounted Romero-Anduray attacking with a knife despite attempts to assist the victims. “He went crazy and killed the two children and the mother,” Turcos said. In fear for his own family’s safety, Turcos locked his doors and called the police.

Neighbor Emilse Fuentes, 60, had interacted with Urbano just days before the incident. She initially thought the screams were due to a fire as she saw Urbano outside, distraught and on the phone. Fuentes mentioned that Urbano had expressed a desire to leave the United States.

“She told me she had come from Colombia illegally two years ago and wanted to return,” Fuentes shared. Urbano had been struggling to adjust and had faced ongoing tensions with Romero-Anduray.

Turcos added that the couple had a troubled history, involving past police intervention and Romero-Anduray’s incarceration. “It was back and forth,” Turcos explained, highlighting Romero-Anduray’s history of anger issues.

Following the attack, Romero-Anduray was discovered injured at the scene and has been hospitalized. Authorities charged him with three counts of first-degree murder and multiple weapon offenses.

While Luisa Urbano was declared dead on site, her children were transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where they later died from their injuries. Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop responded to the tragedy, labeling it a “terrible triple homicide,” and expressing the community’s collective sorrow.

In response to the incident, the city has deployed social workers and chaplains to provide support to the affected residents and families. The apartment building showed visible signs of the crime, with blood on the stairs and police tape sealing off the area.
