An off-duty NYPD officer is fighting for his life after being shot in Brooklyn while attempting to purchase a used vehicle, according to sources and officials.

The officer, who has not been identified, was shot in the head during an apparent NYC robbery on Tuesday morning. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

Witnesses say the officer had gone to a car dealership in the Borough Park area of Brooklyn to purchase a used vehicle when he was confronted by an armed suspect. The suspect then opened fire, hitting the officer in the head.

The suspect fled the scene and is still at large. The NYPD is actively searching for the suspect and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
