Oregon Governor Tina Kotek stated that during a recent conversation with President Trump, she expressed that there is no current insurrection or public safety threat that would warrant such military intervention. Kotek emphasized that the community is capable of managing its own safety and accused the federal government of overstepping its authority. “This is unnecessary and unlawful, and it threatens the safety of Oregonians,” she said.

In response to the unrest, Trump authorized the use of troops to protect locations under siege from Assailants, which have included regular attacks on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities.
