Pennsylvania man sends video of girlfriend’s dead body to friend after he shoots her in the head

LANCASTER, PA – A Pennsylvania man will spend the remainder of his life incarcerated after being convicted of murdering his girlfriend and engaging in a prolonged standoff with law enforcement. Miguel A. Rodriguez, 40, was sentenced in Lancaster County following a jury’s decision that found him guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Nemesis Florentino.

According to court documents, the tragic incident unfolded on September 11, 2022, when Rodriguez fatally shot Florentino and subsequently sent a chilling video of her body to a friend. Following the murder, Rodriguez’s disturbing actions escalated as he barricaded himself inside his East Hempfield Township residence, leading to a nearly five-hour standoff with authorities.

The situation intensified when Rodriguez fired over 100 rounds at responding officers, inhibiting their ability to reach and potentially save Florentino. During prosecution, it was highlighted that Rodriguez’s actions were not only violent but also a grave disregard for human life.

A key piece of evidence presented was a video call Rodriguez made to a friend shortly after the shooting. During this call, he confessed to the murder and showed the friend’s camera the horrific scene. The friend, alarmed by the revelation, immediately alerted law enforcement.

Rodriguez’s attempts to evade responsibility were further captured in a voicemail he left for the same friend. In it, he expressed feelings of remorse and requested forgiveness, asking the friend to take care of his children.

As law enforcement converged on his location, members of the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) engaged with Rodriguez. The tense standoff concluded when Rodriguez, armed and at his doorstep, was shot and wounded by police, leading to his eventual surrender.

The prosecution described the nature of the crime as exceptionally egregious, highlighting Rodriguez’s callousness and lack of respect for human life and law enforcement. Assistant District Attorney Kyle Linardo condemned the video evidence as exemplifying a “despicable” and “heinous” act.

Judge Craig Stedman, while delivering the life sentence without parole, underscored the need for society’s protection from Rodriguez. The court also imposed additional sentences for multiple counts of assault and reckless endangerment tied to the dangerous standoff.

Addressing the court post-sentencing, Rodriguez expressed remorse, attributing his actions to drug influence, and asked for forgiveness from Florentino’s family. Despite his pleas, the severity of his actions had cemented a lifetime behind bars.
