Historic Performances at 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis
The 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis featured some unprecedented performances from some of the top prospects in college football. Two pairs of teammates dominated, while one player’s historic 40-yard dash time had everyone talking.
Nolan Smith, a defensive end from Georgia, displayed electric athleticism and put on a show during the first day of the combine. Smith’s agility and speed were on full display as he ran the 40-yard dash in a record-breaking 4.22 seconds, shattering the previous record of 4.24 seconds set by John Ross in 2017.
Meanwhile, a pair of Ohio State receivers, Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, also made waves with their exceptional performances. Both Wilson and Olave ran the 40-yard dash in under 4.3 seconds and posted impressive times in the shuttle and three-cone drills.
Not to be outdone, another pair of teammates, Oregon offensive linemen Penei Sewell and Jaxson Kirkland, also showed off their skills. Sewell and Kirkland posted top scores in the bench press and vertical jump, displaying their impressive strength and athleticism.
The combine also provided some insight into which players could make a big impact at the next level. CBS Sports identified several prospects who are NFL-ready, including Alabama cornerback Josh Jobe and Penn State defensive end Jayson Oweh.
