Shooting on March 23 in Prince George’s County leads to Murder Charges for Maryland Man

ADELPHI, Md. – A man from Maryland is now facing charges of murder after a fatal shooting that took place last month in Prince George’s County.

On March 23, at around 6:45 p.m., the shooting occurred in the 1800 block of Metzerott Road, resulting in the death of 43-year-old Charles Dent of Hyattsville. Investigators shared that Dent was fatally shot following an argument.

More than a week after Dent’s tragic death, the police made an arrest. 36-year-old Jamar Welch Sr. of Takoma Park was taken into custody in Washington, D.C., and is now facing charges related to Dent’s murder. Investigators believe that Welch and Dent knew each other and that Welch shot Dent during their dispute.

Welch is currently facing charges that include second-degree murder and is awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
