Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Ben Kweller announced the heartbreaking news on Tuesday that his 16-year-old son, Dorian Zev, had passed away in a car accident.

Kweller, who is currently on tour with Ed Sheeran, made the announcement on his website and asked for privacy during this difficult time.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son Dorian Zev Kweller. He was a beautiful, brilliant and loving 16-year-old,” Kweller wrote.

Kweller’s touring partner, Ed Sheeran, also took to social media to express his condolences.

“My heart goes out to Ben and his family,” Sheeran wrote on Twitter. “Dorian was a great kid and I’m so sorry for their loss.”

Fans of Kweller have been mourning his son’s death on social media, sending their condolences and prayers to the family.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to Ben and his family. I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

Kweller’s website also asked for donations to the MusiCares charity in lieu of flowers. MusiCares provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
