Special Police Officer Shoots Man in DC Robbery Disarmament Incident

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A private security company’s special police officer shot a man who had disarmed an officer during an attempted robbery on the 800 block of 7th St NW on Sunday evening, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident unfolded at approximately 6:30 p.m. when reports of a shooting inside a business prompted officers to respond to the scene. An armed man entered the business and followed a special police officer into a back room, where he managed to disarm the officer.

As the situation escalated, a second special police officer confronted the armed man and ultimately fired their weapon, striking the suspect. The man was then transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Division and the Internal Affairs Division have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the sequence of events and the actions of the officers involved.

The details surrounding the attempted robbery and subsequent shooting are still under investigation, leaving the community and law enforcement officials awaiting further updates from the authorities as the situation continues to unfold.

Public safety remains a top priority as law enforcement continues to address incidents involving armed suspects and the use of force by officers, raising questions about protocols and training within private security companies. As the investigation progresses, residents are eager for answers regarding the outcome of the incident and any potential changes in security measures to prevent similar events in the future.
