PARIS, FRANCE – Iga Swiatek, the 2020 French Open women’s singles champion, continues her impressive run in this year’s tournament. In her quarterfinal match against Cori Gauff, Swiatek took a tight first set 7-6, narrowly edging out her opponent in a tiebreak.
The highly-anticipated match between Swiatek and Gauff had fans on the edge of their seats. Both players came into the quarterfinals with strong performances throughout the tournament, and the match proved to be a nail-biter.
While Swiatek ultimately won the first set, Gauff warned her opponent that she’s coming for her in the second set. “I definitely feel like I could have won that set,” Gauff said in a post-match interview. “But I’m not going to give up. I’m going to keep fighting in the second set and see what happens.”
The winner of the Swiatek-Gauff match will go on to face the winner of the Jabeur-Haddad Maia quarterfinal match. The full women’s singles draw can be found on the Home of the Olympic Channel website.
