Two Israeli civilians were shot dead in a suspected terror attack in the West Bank on Thursday night, the Israel Defense Forces said.
The attack occurred in the Palestinian village of Beit Furik, near the city of Nablus, where two Israelis, both in their 30s, were shot by an unknown assailant. The victims were identified as a man and a woman.
The IDF said it is searching for the attacker, who is believed to have fled the scene.
The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the West Bank, where Israeli forces have increased their presence following a series of clashes between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in recent weeks.
The victims were reportedly on their way home from a night out when the attack occurred. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died of his wounds.
The incident is being investigated as a terror attack, and the IDF said it is doing everything possible to find the perpetrator. The attack has sparked outrage among Israeli officials, who have condemned the violence and vowed to bring the perpetrator to justice.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the West Bank, where tensions have been high in recent weeks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to take action to ensure the safety of Israelis in the region.
