Vanessa Bryant Reaches $29 Million Settlement in Lawsuit Over Kobe Bryant Crash Photos

Vanessa Bryant, the widow of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, has reached a settlement with Los Angeles County in a lawsuit over photos taken of the site of the helicopter crash that killed Kobe and their daughter Gianna. The settlement is for nearly $29 million, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The lawsuit was filed in September 2020, alleging that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department had released unauthorized photos of the crash site to the public. Vanessa Bryant argued that the photos were taken for investigative purposes and should not have been released.

The settlement includes $4.2 million for the legal fees and costs associated with the lawsuit, and the remaining $24.8 million will be paid to the Bryant family.

The settlement also includes an agreement that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will develop a new policy for the release of photos from accident and crime scenes in the future.

The settlement brings to a close a long and difficult legal battle for the Bryant family. Kobe and Gianna Bryant were killed in a helicopter crash in January 2020. The crash also killed seven other people, including three other members of the Bryant family.

The settlement is a victory for the Bryant family, and a reminder of the need for greater respect for the privacy of victims of tragedy.
