WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced plans on social media Saturday to sign an executive order that would enforce stricter voting procedures, including a requirement for voter identification for all ballots. He emphasized that there would be “no exceptions” to this rule, which he believes is essential for ensuring electoral integrity.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump also indicated that he intends to limit mail-in voting, allowing it only for individuals facing significant health challenges or for military personnel stationed far from home. He advocated for the exclusive use of paper ballots, marking a stark contrast to methods that involve electronic voting systems.

Currently, voter identification requirements vary widely across the United States. Thirty-six states mandate some form of identification at the polls, with 25 specifying that a photo ID is necessary. In 14 states, including California, Illinois, and New York, voters can cast ballots without presenting ID on Election Day.

Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about the legitimacy and safety of mail-in voting.
