Youngstown Man Found Dead in Street, Woman Injured by Gunfire – 18th Homicide of 2023

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A man, 26, was found dead and a woman, 72, was injured by gunfire in a shooting on Sunday evening. The incident occurred on Zents Avenue near Logan Avenue on the North Side of the city.

Police responded to a call at 6:26 p.m. and found the man lying in the middle of the road with multiple gunshot wounds. The woman sustained a gunshot wound to her lower extremity and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The man’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

The Youngstown Police Department reported that the shooting is being treated as a homicide and felonious assault, and no suspects have been identified at this time. The authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and call the police department or Crime Stoppers. Tips will remain anonymous, and a reward may be available for helpful information.

This marks the 18th homicide in the city this year, with the last reported homicide taking place on November 2. The previous incidents include the shooting death of Edward Lewis, 52, and the killing of Gena M. Wade, 44, of Beloit. The 2023 homicide toll also includes an officer-involved shooting death in October.

With 24 homicides in 2022 and 18 reported so far in 2023, the city of Youngstown continues to grapple with violent crime. The community and law enforcement are urging for cooperation and for anyone with information to come forward to help bring those responsible to justice.
