On Tuesday, tragedy struck the city of Monterey Park, California, when 11 victims were killed in a shooting at a local dance hall.
The victims have been identified as David Acevedo, 19; Alfredo Calvillo, 19; Jesus Cortez, 20; Carlos Estrada, 20; Jesus Gomez, 18; Alex Hernandez, 20; Luis Hernandez, 20; Eddie Lopez, 20; Jose Mendoza, 19; Francisco Morales, 20; and Jose Perez, 20.
According to police, the shooter opened fire at the dance hall around 11:00 pm on Monday night and was still at large when officers arrived at the scene. It took police five hours to warn the public that the shooter was on the loose.
The Monterey Park shooting is only the latest in a series of gun violence incidents in California. Just two days prior, two people were killed in Half Moon Bay in a separate shooting.
The Monterey Park shooting victims and their families are in the thoughts and prayers of the community. The police are still searching for the shooter and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
