14-year-old girl and boyfriend plot to kill her mom for taking her phone away

EASTPOINTE, MI – In a disturbing turn of events, Michigan prosecutors are pursuing adult-level charges against a 14-year-old girl and her 17-year-old boyfriend after they allegedly attempted to murder her mother following a domestic dispute related to discipline measures.

In the early hours of July 14, an Eastpointe woman was startled awake to a terrifying ordeal—a male assailant initiated an attack by attempting to smother her with a pillow while she slept in her home on Roxana Avenue. The attack escalated as the intruder physically assaulted her, strangling the victim to the brink of suffocation. Her desperate cries for help summoned her own mother to her rescue, who confronted the aggressor. In his escape, the suspect voiced a remorseful “sorry” and fled, unintentionally leaving behind a knife and his shoes, items later discovered by law enforcement.

Investigators pieced together the shocking realization that the instigator might be connected to the household—it was the 14-year-old daughter. Branded by her mother as recalcitrant and burdened with a history of juvenile infringement, the girl allegedly harbored resentment towards her mother for seizing her phone.

Authorities found incriminating evidence from surveillance footage and detailed interviews pointing to a 17-year-old male whom the girl met online. The couple, united in their infatuation, purportedly forged a deadly plot with the objective of liberating themselves from parental oversight.

The gravity of the accusations has compelled the Macomb County Prosecutors Office to charge the pair as adults. The young girl is confronted with charges of solicitation of murder and conspiracy to commit homicide—charges that, upon conviction, could result in a lifetime behind bars or a minimum of 25 to 40 years for conspiracy.

Her older counterpart is additionally charged with assault intending to murder and is currently detained on a $2.5 million bond. Conversely, the 14-year-old girl’s bond is set at $1 million. Due to their minor status, the identities of the accused have been withheld from the public.

This extreme case underscores the potential severity and unpredictability of adolescent misconduct and raises serious questions about the impact of online relationships and the influence of digital communication on youth behavior.
