PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – A Florida woman is accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend and leaving his body undiscovered for a week before a family member stumbled upon the remains, authorities said. The woman then allegedly posted an unusual message about evil forces online just weeks after the alleged murder, according to law enforcement.
Veanitta Lenon, 37, faces charges of second-degree murder with a firearm and fraudulent use of personal identification of a deceased person in connection with the death of Jason Bloomfield, 46. Bloomfield’s body was discovered on November 29, a week after police believe he was killed inside his home.
The victim’s teenage son and mother found Bloomfield under a pile of clothes and blankets after entering through a back door that they had to move off its hinges. Concerned by an extended silence from Bloomfield, they went to check on him and made the grim finding, investigators said.
According to the probable cause statement, Bloomfield had been shot multiple times. The investigation swiftly turned to Lenon after witnesses, video evidence, and her own interviews with police suggested she was centrally involved.
Authorities allege that Lenon attempted to mislead investigators and create an alibi by interacting with neighbors and sending messages from Bloomfield’s phone after his death. Police say she even sent text messages to his sister and others, trying to suggest Bloomfield had left her and was possibly with another woman.
Some of these messages, sent in his name, raised suspicions among family members because of their length, content, and the late hours at which they were sent compared with Bloomfield’s typical communication habits. In one exchange, Lenon claimed Bloomfield had left the house with a woman, insisting that they had separated.
Bloomfield’s family challenged these claims as they notified police, identifying Lenon as his girlfriend and raising concerns over the unusual texts. The investigation intensified when Lenon arrived at the scene in Bloomfield’s BMW after the body was found. At that moment, family members accused her in front of law enforcement.
During police interviews, Lenon allegedly changed her version of events multiple times, at first stating her last argument with Bloomfield took place just before Thanksgiving, then shifting the date to several days earlier, aligning with the timeline police believe Bloomfield was killed. Investigators said Lenon also rambled about unrelated topics and referenced other individuals, including an ex-girlfriend she blamed for previous incidents.
Neighbors told police Lenon displayed aggressive behavior in the days following Bloomfield’s death, leading some to fear for their safety and avoid becoming involved.
After the killing, Lenon is alleged to have used Bloomfield’s car and, according to authorities, transferred $500 from his account to herself using a digital payment app. Shortly after these events, on December 11, Lenon reportedly posted an enigmatic message on Facebook referring to Satan and spiritual battles.
Court documents confirm Lenon’s social media presence and cite the post as part of the evidence gathered by authorities. Bloomfield’s death and the subsequent investigation have left the community unsettled and searching for answers.
Lenon has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in custody without bond as the criminal case proceeds through the court system.
