18-year-old Air Force Academy cadet is run over by woman on jet ski who flees the scene in Texas

GRAPEVINE, TX – A tragic incident at Grapevine Lake claimed the life of an 18-year-old recent U.S. Air Force Academy graduate when her kayak was struck by a jet ski Sunday. Authorities have charged a 21-year-old woman in connection with the fatal collision.

Ava Moore’s promising journey was abruptly halted when an erratically operated jet ski slammed into her kayak. Witnesses recounted that Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez was recklessly maneuvering the jet ski, endangering those nearby. When the collision occurred, Gonzalez allegedly left the scene immediately.

Efforts to save Moore commenced quickly after the crash. First responders pulled her from the water, providing immediate medical attention before transporting her by ambulance. However, she was pronounced dead before reaching the hospital at approximately 5:59 p.m.

The incident unfolded when Moore and another kayaker attempted to distance themselves from the hazardous movement of the jet ski. Despite their efforts, the collision occurred near the lake’s shoreline.

Following the crash, Gonzalez was seen entering a Toyota Corolla driven by Maikel Coello Perozo, who subsequently collided with two other vehicles while fleeing.

The response from law enforcement was swift; both Gonzalez and Perozo were apprehended at their Dallas residence on Tuesday.

District Attorney Ken Paxton confirmed that both individuals are Venezuelan nationals residing in the U.S. illegally. Gonzalez faces a charge of second-degree manslaughter, while Perozo faces charges related to leaving the scene of an accident. Further charges are being considered as the investigation unfolds.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to the tragic accident. The community mourns the loss of Moore, remembering her as a dedicated and accomplished young woman whose life was tragically cut short.
