19-year-old goes to retrieve his mother’s guns from teen’s house and the teen shoots him in the stomach

GILLETTE, WY – A 19-year-old from Gillette has admitted to firing the shot that wounded another teen during a confrontation this spring, authorities say.

Kamren Crousore entered a guilty plea to attempted manslaughter Monday, following a violent altercation at his home on March 4. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss counts of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault and a firearms charge as part of the plea agreement.

According to investigators, the incident began when another 19-year-old arrived at Crousore’s residence with intentions to confront him, bringing along a stolen handgun. A woman who drove the victim to the house later told officers the teen was determined to “settle some beef” with Crousore.

After entering the home, gunshots were soon heard, and the teen emerged suffering from a wound to his abdomen, witnesses said. He reportedly urged his driver to take him to the hospital immediately.

Deputies from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office responded and later conducted a search of the residence, locating a purple-framed 9 mm Walther CCP handgun. The victim’s mother identified the gun as one of two firearms missing from her home, authorities stated.

Further statements during the investigation indicated the wounded teen planned to sell the stolen weapons, which reportedly belonged to his mother.

A witness present at the house on the day of the altercation gave additional details, telling police tempers flared after Crousore used methamphetamine. The conflict, which began as an argument about fighting mutual acquaintances, escalated when the victim refused to leave before retrieving the stolen guns.

At one point during the confrontation, the argument became physical, with the witness describing the victim as having slammed Crousore and punched him in the face. Crousore, seeking to end the altercation, grabbed the purple handgun, pointed it at the victim, and demanded he leave.

The situation intensified further, with both individuals reportedly struggling over the firearms. Crousore then fired three shots, striking the other teen once in the stomach. The witness recalled Crousore expressing shock and regret after realizing he had pulled the trigger.

After the shooting, Crousore hid the weapon in a vent, called a friend for a ride, and fled the scene, investigators said. He evaded authorities until March 8, when deputies, acting on a tip, discovered him concealed in a bedroom closet during a search of a Gillette residence. Officers took him into custody without incident.

Authorities have not released information regarding Crousore’s sentencing date.
