MOBILE, AL – A 19-year-old man is facing murder charges after allegedly killing his father in the front yard of the family’s home on Wednesday afternoon.

Mobile police responded to a residence on Victor Road shortly after 2 p.m. and discovered 67-year-old Mark Prince unresponsive in the yard. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. Early findings indicate that the victim died from multiple stab wounds.

Detectives began their investigation immediately, combing through evidence at the family home and inspecting a red truck parked outside. Investigators believe the attack was premeditated, though they have not yet released any details about a possible motive.

Neighbors described the shocking scene as police descended upon the quiet residential area. Some recalled noticing emergency lights and officers working at the property. One resident said the commotion outside her window quickly signaled that something serious had occurred.

Community members expressed disbelief at the tragedy, revealing that Mark Prince was well-liked and known for his kindness. “He was a dear person to me and my family,” one neighbor said. “We love him, and we’re definitely going to miss him. I never expected this to happen.”

Investigators learned from witnesses that after the incident, Samuel Prince called his mother at work, prompting her to rush home. She contacted emergency services upon arrival.

Those who knew the family stated that father and son once appeared close, but observed that Samuel had become increasingly reclusive in recent years. A neighbor recalled seeing less and less of the younger Prince since his early teens.

Samuel Prince remained at the scene following the incident. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

On Friday, the suspect appeared before a Mobile County judge for a bond hearing, where his bail was set at $750,000 with a 25 percent cash requirement. Prosecutors stated that the stabbing took place in front of the victim’s mother, adding to the circumstances of the case. The District Attorney’s Office had asked for a higher bond of $1 million.

Should Prince be released on bond, he will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device. Authorities continue to analyze evidence and interviews as the investigation progresses.
