2-year-old Georgia boy shot to death and police arrest his mother

HINESVILLE, GA – Authorities in Hinesville have arrested a 29-year-old woman after the death of her 2-year-old son, marking a tragic turn in a case that has shaken the Liberty County community.

Raven Louise Broniecki was taken into custody Monday and charged with involuntary manslaughter, cruelty to children, reckless conduct, and criminal negligence resulting in excessive physical or mental pain in the second degree, according to local jail records. Police confirmed the arrest but have not released further details about the events leading to the charges.

The case centers on the death of Keith Richard Broniecki, who was pronounced dead at a hospital after suffering a gunshot wound. Emergency crews responded to a home on Slade Street following reports that a child had been injured. Hinesville’s detectives noted that the preliminary investigation suggested the shooting was accidental and self-inflicted, but continued to gather information regarding the circumstances.

Broniecki’s bond was set at $22,300, and she has been released while the case is pending, according to court records.

In the days after her son’s death, Broniecki created an online fundraising campaign, asking for help with funeral costs and family expenses. In her message, she described her son as her “sweet baby boy” and said her family was struggling financially in the aftermath of his death. The campaign has since been deleted.

She also referenced her family’s difficulties, explaining that they still had six children to care for and were trying to get back on their feet following the tragedy and rising bills. Those statements, posted alongside pleas for help, drew attention before the investigation led to Broniecki’s arrest.

More than two weeks before charges were filed, Hinesville Police had announced an active investigation into the boy’s death, treating it initially as a possible accidental shooting. Detectives at the time said they were focused on piecing together how the toddler came into contact with the firearm.

The police department has since declined to share further details about what led to the decision to formally charge Broniecki. The case remains open as authorities continue to review evidence.

Court records do not list an attorney for Broniecki, and attempts to reach family members for comment were unsuccessful.

Investigators say no other arrests have been made in connection with the case, but declined to say if further charges are possible. The community continues to mourn the loss as the family navigates the legal proceedings and grieves the young boy’s death.
