RENO, NV – A Nevada father faces severe charges following the alleged prolonged abuse and tragic death of his 2-year-old daughter, Izabella Loving.
Nicholas Loving, 35, is accused of child abuse after reportedly subjecting the toddler to multiple days of violent treatment at their Cold Springs residence, approximately 20 miles northwest of Reno. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his current detention in the Washoe County Jail, secured by a $10 million bond.
On April 3, deputies responded to an early morning call from the Loving household. Upon arrival, they encountered the young girl unconscious, and paramedics declared her deceased at the scene. Preliminary investigations have revealed substantial physical abuse inflicted on the child, stirring public outrage.
Details from the probable cause affidavit provide a disturbing account of the events leading up to Izabella’s death. Her mother, not facing charges, shared with investigators that she witnessed Loving administering physical harm to the child, including kicking and dragging her by her clothing. For nearly ten days prior to her demise, Izabella had endured severe symptoms like vomiting blood and mucus.
According to the affidavit, the night before her death, Izabella was put to bed in a constricted space described as a “small make-shift cubby” after her mother tried comforting her with a bath as her body temperature plummeted. Traumatizing accounts indicate that Loving admitted to occasionally confining Izabella in the cubby, though claiming it was done more frequently by her mother.
Alarmingly, when Izabella was found unresponsive, Loving delayed notifying emergency services, opting instead to devise ways to avoid legal repercussions, he allegedly discussed various escape plans with the family, including burying Izabella’s body in the backyard. Eventually, they relocated Izabella’s body and attempted to fabricate a narrative about her death.
Further adding to the tragedy, Loving is alleged to have falsely accused the couple’s other children of being partially responsible for Izabella’s severe injuries. The young girl exhibited numerous injuries, such as facial bruises, a black eye, and wounds on her body, noted by investigators.
The medical examiner is still finalizing the cause of Izabella’s death, and additional charges may be filed as the investigation unfolds. Amidst her grief and guilt, Izabella’s mother expressed her belief that both she and Loving should face justice for their roles in the devastating events.
