MILWAUKEE, WI – A Milwaukee man has been arrested and charged after allegedly hurling a baby against a wall in a fit of rage over a video game. Twenty-year-old Jalin A. White is facing serious charges, including child abuse resulting in great bodily harm and child neglect.
The alleged incident took place at a residence on the 7000 block of 42nd Street when White was reportedly upset over losing a game of NBA2K. The baby, who is just 8 months old, sustained critical injuries, and doctors have expressed doubt about his chances of survival, according to local authorities.
Milwaukee County Court Commissioner Andrea Bolender presided over White’s initial court appearance, where the gravity of the situation was underscored. She recounted White’s admission: “Your statement (was) he hit the wall hard. You heard the bang of the wall.”
According to a criminal complaint, the 8-month-old baby, identified as JW, was under White’s care while his mother was at work. The couple rents a room in a house owned by the boy’s maternal grandparents. On the day of the incident, the child was reportedly in good health when his mother returned from work, only to leave again briefly. During this interval, White was playing video games with the baby in his care.
The child’s mother returned to find her infant struggling to breathe and exhibiting signs of injury. With the baby barely responsive, she sought her father’s advice, who urged her to contact emergency services immediately.
Medical evaluations revealed that the baby suffered from skull fractures, multiple broken ribs, and a previously broken collarbone, raising questions about the child’s treatment prior to the incident. Despite White’s initial denials, investigators reported that his explanations contradicted the severity of the injuries.
After repeated inquiries, White confessed to the authorities that frustration over the video game had led him to throw the child into the wall. “My son hit his head on the wall. He hit his head hard on the wall, bro,” White reportedly recounted, acknowledging the noise created by the impact.
Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney Madeline Witte described the case as “a severe level of violence for an innocent, infant child,” emphasizing the brutality of the act. During the hearing, White was visibly distressed, shaking his head and wiping away tears.
Commissioner Bolender indicated that should the child succumb to his injuries, White could face upgraded charges, potentially leading to a life sentence. His current charges could result in more than 60 years of imprisonment.
A court hearing for White is scheduled for Friday. Meanwhile, it has been noted that the child’s mother might also face legal repercussions, though specific charges have not yet been disclosed.
