21-year-old Georgia man leaves his 3-month-old baby alone to die in motel room of starvation and malnutrition

COLLEGE PARK, GA – A Georgia man is facing serious charges following the death of his 3-month-old son, who was left unattended in a hotel room. Jerry Chambers Jr., 21, was arrested in January after his infant son, Joshua, was found lifeless, leading to charges of murder and cruelty to children.

Chambers initially told police he discovered Joshua unresponsive in a College Park hotel room, claiming the infant appeared to be foaming at the mouth. Despite this discovery, Chambers allegedly did not contact emergency services for help and left the hotel, leaving Joshua behind while he went to work.

Authorities state that instead of seeking medical assistance, Chambers went to another hotel with a friend, leaving his son unattended for a second time.

Upon returning and finding the baby in the same state, Chambers reportedly packed his belongings and left without attempting to revive or seek help for the child.

The arrest affidavit details that Chambers waited an alarming two days before finally calling 911. By that time, the devastating outcome had already occurred, and police, upon arrival, found Joshua deceased.

Recently revealed autopsy results disclosed by the Fulton County Medical Examiner provide a grim account of the infant’s last days. The autopsy determined that Joshua died from dehydration and undernourishment marked by neglect. The death has been classified as a homicide, intensifying the charges against Chambers.

Chambers is currently held at Fulton County Jail with bail set at $150,000 as legal proceedings are underway. The tragic case underscores the dire consequences of neglect and the critical need for immediate action in emergencies, especially involving vulnerable children.

This situation has reverberated through the community, raising awareness and concern about child neglect and the duties of caregivers. As the investigation continues, the community remains in shock over the circumstances surrounding this tragic loss.
