TROY, MI – A man from the Detroit area is facing serious charges after allegedly shooting a co-worker in a hospital parking garage; an action authorities believe was sparked by a personal vendetta over not being invited to a family funeral.
Robert Paljusevic, 21, has been charged with assault with intent to murder, felony firearm possession, and carrying a concealed weapon.
The charges stem from an incident Thursday morning in the parking garage of Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital when hospital security reported gunfire, initially causing concerns of an active shooter.
Upon arrival, Troy police officers found that the issue was an isolated altercation between two hospital employees. The victim, a 25-year-old man, had sustained gunshot wounds to his arm and was treated in the hospital’s emergency department.
Authorities report that as the victim drove into the garage, Paljusevic allegedly fired at his vehicle, hitting him twice. The victim managed to identify his attacker, leading to Paljusevic’s arrest a few hours later at his Macomb County residence.
According to court documents presented by Troy police, the two men had previously enjoyed a friendship that deteriorated after the victim excluded Paljusevic from his father’s family-only funeral service. The victim’s relatives described Paljusevic as having a “short fuse” and being overly possessive.
Paljusevic had attended a public viewing for the victim’s father, where he reportedly made a scene, expressing his displeasure about the lack of an invitation. Following the funeral, it is alleged that Paljusevic escalated his anger with a disturbing video call, during which he insulted the victim and exhibited disrespectful behavior towards funeral materials.
Police confirm that prior to this incident, Paljusevic had been employed at the hospital for approximately two years. Following his apprehension, he was placed in Oakland County Jail and is being held without bond as the investigation continues.
