23-year-old Georgia woman fleeing police in large SUV crashes into random car and kills teen driver then celebrates

ATLANTA, GA – A woman has been charged with murder following a high-speed chase that culminated in a devastating crash, resulting in the death of a young motorist on Atlanta’s streets. The tragic event unfolded when authorities pursued the suspect’s SUV through the city’s northeast neighborhoods.

On April 14, at approximately 8 p.m., Georgia State Patrol spotted a Chevy Equinox speeding and swerving aggressively on Interstate 20. Attempts to pull the vehicle over only escalated the situation, as the driver, later identified as 23-year-old Faduma Mohamed, accelerated in an effort to escape capture.

The pursuit led officers off the highway onto Moreland Avenue, a busy road in Atlanta’s Little Five Points district. Here, Mohamed reportedly continued her reckless maneuvers, taking over lanes unlawfully and passing cars in the center turn lane, intensifying the danger for all road users.

Tragedy struck when the pursued vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Moreland and McLendon avenues. At this point, Mohamed’s vehicle crashed into a Honda Accord occupied by 19-year-old Cooper Schoenke. The impact was catastrophic, mangling the Accord’s driver’s side and propelling it into a nearby business, the Little Five Corner Tavern, causing further destruction.

Emergency responders arrived promptly, but efforts to save Schoenke’s life were in vain. He was pronounced dead at the scene, ending his life abruptly in a chain of events that began with reckless driving. Meanwhile, Mohamed sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Grady Memorial Hospital.

An eyewitness account from local resident Shamir Yates highlighted a chilling aftermath. Yates described watching authorities extract Mohamed from the wreckage, observing her unexpected reactions, which she characterized as celebratory rather than remorseful. “Maybe, I don’t know, a reaction as if she survived and it was a celebration more than a disappointment,” Yates remarked.

Mohamed’s legal troubles have mounted following the incident. She faces charges that include murder, vehicular homicide, and a slew of driving offenses, such as reckless driving and failing to obey traffic signals. Further, a charge related to drug possession has also been levied, complicating her legal standing further.

Surveillance footage from nearby businesses has circulated publicly, providing a grim visual of the collision’s severe impact. The loss of life and the dramatic events leading up to it underscore the tenuous balance of safety on public roads and the dire consequences when it is disregarded.

As the case proceeds, the community grapples with the shock and sadness of losing Schoenke, a young life taken too soon, while authorities endeavor to ensure justice takes its course.
