HOUSTON, TX – In a tragic culmination of jealousy and violence, a 23-year-old Texas woman has been arrested for the alleged murder of her boyfriend. Authorities say Tatyana Evans fatally shot 28-year-old Geovanni Montague after discovering incriminating text messages to another woman on his cellphone.
Law enforcement officials took Evans into custody on Tuesday, charging her with murder. According to a Harris County Sheriff’s Office news release, the ordeal unfolded on February 9 in the early morning hours. Deputies responded to reports of a murder victim on Barely Lane, where first responders found Montague unresponsive and with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts, he was declared dead at the scene.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez characterized the couple’s relationship as “volatile,” suggesting jealousy as a potential motive for the shooting. Investigators in Harris County are piecing together events that led to this eruption of violence, which occurred not far from the Oak Grove apartment complex where Montague lived with his mother.
Interviews with Montague’s mother revealed a turbulent and allegedly violent relationship between her son and Evans. Court documents show that Montague had previously reported serious threats from Evans in December 2024, although those complaints did not lead to charges.
Surveillance footage has become central to the investigation. Detectives reportedly obtained footage showing a vehicle matching Evans’ car speeding away—headlights off—from the crime scene around the time of the murder.
Further details have surfaced about the couple’s actions leading up to the deadly incident. On February 8, Montague and Evans reportedly spent several hours together at his apartment. Upon leaving, Evans accidentally took Montague’s cell phone with her. Later, Montague called Evans to inform her about the misplaced phone.
Investigators report that while retrieving the phone from her car, Evans discovered text messages from another woman, prompting her deadly confrontation. Evans reportedly armed herself with a .45 pistol and returned to confront Montague. During the ensuing argument, Evans claims Montague grabbed her, leading her to shoot him multiple times before leaving him and returning home.
Adding another layer to the narrative, Evans is described as a decorated U.S. Army veteran, having served in Afghanistan. Her military background stands in stark contrast to the violent actions she’s now accused of, underscoring the tragedy of the situation.
This shooting of Geovanni Montague remains under investigation as authorities continue to unearth more details and evidence surrounding the dynamics of Evans and Montague’s volatile relationship.
