29-year-old Florida man enters ex-girlfriend’s office with shotgun and shoots her and a coworker

BRADENTON, FL – An office building in Bradenton was the scene of a deadly midday shooting after a man allegedly targeted his former girlfriend and a co-worker, sparking panic and chaos among employees.

Police say Keith Roberts Jr., 29, entered a business suite on the 5200 block of 4th Avenue around 12:45 p.m. Thursday and shot 29-year-old Myshaela Burnham, his ex-girlfriend, at close range. According to court documents, Roberts is now facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.

Investigators allege that Roberts, armed with both a shotgun and a handgun, bypassed an unlocked door and headed straight to Burnham’s desk, where he opened fire at point-blank range. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, followed by shouts and frantic calls for help as office workers scrambled to safety.

A second woman, a co-worker seated at a neighboring desk, was also struck during the gunfire. Authorities said she was hit by a shotgun blast and further injured by additional gunfire. She was rushed to a hospital and, after undergoing surgery, was listed in stable condition on Friday. Officials have not released her identity but acknowledged she survived multiple gunshot wounds and is expected to recover.

The office shares a building with a dental practice; while no patients were present at the time of the shooting, the sudden violence sent shockwaves through the entire area. Employees in adjacent suites told police they heard the commotion and immediately sought cover.

Law enforcement responded swiftly after receiving several 911 calls describing a vehicle speeding away from the scene. Officers from the Bradenton Police Department, with support from nearby agencies, launched a search and apprehended Roberts within 25 minutes of the shooting. He was reportedly taken into custody without incident.

Authorities described the attack as targeted and premeditated, noting that Roberts seemed to know exactly where Burnham’s desk was located. The investigation indicates he had prepared for the attack by carrying both a shotgun and a handgun into the building.

Roberts appeared before a judge on Friday and remains in custody ahead of an upcoming court date, where he is expected to be arraigned in February. Prosecutors are reviewing evidence and witness statements to determine the full sequence of events and whether additional charges may be filed.

Family, friends, and colleagues of Burnham expressed shock and grief, remembering her as a valued co-worker who was dedicated to her job. The office community is also rallying support for the surviving victim as she begins her recovery.

Authorities have increased patrols in the area and are providing counseling services to employees affected by the incident as the investigation continues.
