29-year-old Wisconsin man dies in murder-for-hire plot masterminded by his 25-year-old baby mama

MILWAUKEE, WI – A Wisconsin woman has been accused of orchestrating the murder of her former boyfriend in a purportedly staged robbery scheme.

Ashanti Davis, 25, is facing charges of solicitation of first-degree homicide following the death of Bernell Hall, 29, a father to three children.

Davis was apprehended on December 31, nearly two months after Hall was shot and killed. Court documents suggest that Davis and Hall were seated in a car behind a building in Milwaukee on November 1 when two masked men allegedly carried out a fake robbery with Hall as the sole target. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Initially, Davis claimed to authorities that she fled upon hearing a single gunshot while escaping the ambush. However, investigators allege she conspired with a man she was romantically involved with who was in custody at the time leading up to the incident.

Authorities have revealed numerous recorded calls between Davis and the incarcerated individual. In one conversation dated October 28, Davis supposedly indicated her intent with the words, “Baby daddy, boom, pop, boom.” The following day, purported exchanges included Davis saying she “got a cat to kill the rat,” presumably referring to her plans against Hall.

On October 31, a day prior to Hall’s fatal shooting, Davis allegedly stated, “it’s going to happen real soon.” Merely 12 hours after Hall’s death, Davis reportedly informed the inmate, “they killed him,” and mentioned suspicions about her involvement.

Nicole Hall, Bernell Hall’s mother, expressed little surprise at Davis’s arrest. “I knew she would end up getting caught because she doesn’t know how to stop talking. I knew she would incriminate herself,” she said.

Davis made a court appearance on January 4 and is held on a $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing has been planned for January 10.
