31-year-old New York woman who went missing after night clubbing during Budapest vacation is found murdered

BUFFALO, NY – The vibrant life of Mackenzie “Kenzie” Michalski, a 31-year-old American nurse, was cut tragically short during a fateful trip to Budapest. Her father, Bill Michalski, recently shared his deep emotional struggles with her sudden and shocking death as friends and family gathered for a vigil in her honor over the weekend.

Mackenzie disappeared under mysterious circumstances after a night out at a local nightclub on November 5. Just a few days later, on November 8, Budapest Police arrested a 37-year-old Irish man in connection with her disappearance. Officers were led to her body by the suspect, who claimed the event was an “accident.”

During a candlelight vigil in Budapest, Bill Michalski recounted the painful loss of his daughter. “There was no reason for this to happen,” he remarked, still grappling to comprehend the tragic events. His voice carried the weight of a father’s heartbreak when he spoke about his daughter’s affection for Budapest, her so-called “happy place.”

Police reports have withheld the suspect’s name. Authorities identified him after tracing his presence with Mackenzie across several nightclubs in the area. They revealed that after spending time together, the suspect took Mackenzie to his apartment, where he subsequently admitted to killing her.

The gruesome discovery unfolded as investigators learned how the suspect attempted to conceal the crime. He allegedly cleaned the apartment and placed Mackenzie’s body in a wardrobe before transferring her to a suitcase and transporting her to Lake Balaton.

Authorities also uncovered alarming internet searches made by the suspect, including queries on how to dispose of a body and the procedures for missing person cases, indicating premeditated malice.

As the Western New York community comes to terms with the loss, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Mackenzie’s family, already surpassing its $35,000 goal. Meanwhile, friends and family also organized a Facebook group dedicated to her memory and efforts to locate her before the grim news broke.

Mary Eustace, close to Mackenzie, later wrote heartfelt tributes on social media describing her as a “beautiful and compassionate young woman.” She recalled Mackenzie’s dedication to her profession and her remarkable ability to touch lives with her humor, empathy, and kindness.

Back in her hometown of Fredonia, New York, another vigil allowed for shared grief and reflection. Community members, including Mayor Michael Ferguson, gathered to support each other, highlighting the close-knit nature of the village.

Mackenzie’s legacy finds solace in the lives she touched, remembered as a beacon of joy and wonder. Those who knew her are dedicated to carrying forward her spirit by embracing kindness and living with authenticity.
