37-year-old St. Louis woman kidnapped from her house and forced to withdraw money at ATM then murdered

ST. LOUIS, MO – Authorities have confirmed that a woman found dead in a St. Louis alley was the same individual abducted earlier in Clayton. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department announced this connection on Thursday, shedding light on a series of grim events that have left a family mourning.

The incident began in Clayton, where the victim, identified as 37-year-old Michelle Hampton, was reportedly kidnapped by armed individuals. According to her brother, Mike Potter, the kidnapping was witnessed by a family member who saw Hampton being forced into a car around 7:15 a.m., shortly after she left for work.

Hampton’s body was discovered in an alley on Greer Avenue at approximately 11 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Her brother expressed disbelief, stating, “She was a good person. She wasn’t involved in anything bad. It’s hard to understand how this happened.”

Preliminary investigations suggest that the abduction from Whitburn Drive in Clayton was a targeted attack. Police have ruled out randomness in this crime. Witnesses reported seeing two men forcing Hampton into a vehicle and subsequently driving off with her car, which was later recovered by authorities.

Hampton’s twin sister, Samantha, witnessed the kidnapping as she was driving down the street. In a terrifying turn of events, she attempted to intervene, following the abductors. They fired shots at her vehicle near Euclid and Enright in North St. Louis, while her children were inside, although no one was harmed.

Family members recounted being informed by the police that Hampton was taken to multiple ATMs and forced to withdraw money before being fatally shot five times in the head. She was discovered in an alley adjacent to Hickey Elementary School. The unsettling proximity prompted the school to implement a soft lockdown, though it was later lifted.

The North Side Community Elementary School, close to the crime scene, reported that they remained uninformed about the shooting until contacted by the media. No arrests have been made yet, and investigations by both St. Louis and Clayton police continue as they work to unravel the details surrounding this tragic event.

In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, Hampton’s family has initiated a fundraising campaign to assist with funeral expenses, seeking community support in their time of need. The unresolved case leaves a community on edge and a family searching for answers.
