39-year-old Florida woman shoots her husband and 15-year-old son in fatal rampage

MIAMI GARDENS, FL – A Florida woman is facing serious charges after allegedly shooting and killing her husband amid a domestic altercation that also resulted in her teenage son being injured. The incident unfolded on Friday morning in a townhome in Miami Gardens.

Shaneeka Daschell Harris, 39, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after authorities say she shot her husband, Aaron Swatts. The tragic scene was exacerbated when Harris also reportedly shot her 15-year-old son, who sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh.

Police responded to a disturbance call at approximately 6:40 a.m. when they arrived at the residence on Northwest 46th Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers noted movement from an upstairs window and instructed occupants to vacate the premises.

The first individual to exit was Harris’ unharmed son, identified in legal documents by the initials “J.T.” It was J.T. who informed the responding officers about the condition of his younger brother, also referred to as “T.T.,” who had been hurt during the incident. Following J.T., Harris and her injured son exited the home, with Harris informing the police that Swatts was still inside.

Officers who entered the property discovered Swatts unresponsive on the floor in an upstairs bedroom doorway, having suffered a gunshot wound to the back. Emergency medical services transported him to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

The teenage victim, treated and released from the same hospital, accompanied detectives to the police headquarters for further investigation. Both sons shared with police that their mother was responsible for the shootings, authorities said.

Investigators concluded that the confrontation began as an argument between Harris and Swatts, which quickly escalated. During the altercation, Harris allegedly discharged a firearm multiple times, wounding both Swatts and her son. Inside the home, officers found three shell casings and a black 9 mm Walther CCP handgun containing five live rounds.

The initial call to 911 was reportedly made by Harris’ unharmed son, who informed dispatchers that Harris still had possession of the gun. An emotional voice, believed to be Harris’, was heard on the call, claiming the incident resulted in harm to her son.

Authorities reported that Harris and Swatts had been wed since 2022 and that Harris has four children from a previous relationship. She is currently detained without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

In the wake of this incident, Harris faces a legal battle, and the family grapples with the aftermath of a domestic dispute turned fatal.
