6-year-old boy with disabilities thrown in canal known for crocodiles by his own mother

BENGALURU, India – In a harrowing turn of events, authorities in Karnataka, India, have apprehended a couple following the tragic demise of their six-year-old son. The young boy, who had speech and hearing disabilities, was allegedly thrown into a crocodile-infested canal by his mother, an act that local law enforcement attributes to pressure from her husband.

On Saturday evening, as reported by local authorities, an argument between the husband and wife, identified as Ravi Kumar and Savitri Kumar, escalated, culminating in the disturbing incident at a canal linked to a river notorious for its dangerous wildlife. The following day, villagers discovered the child’s mutilated remains.

Law enforcement officials, who had initiated a search the night before but paused it due to diminishing light, reconvened their efforts on Sunday, uncovering the child’s body bearing multiple crocodile bite marks. His hand was missing. The gruesome nature of the crime has sent ripples of shock through the community and beyond.

Investigations revealed a troubling history of discord within the family. According to authorities, Ravi Kumar had been pressing his wife to dispose of their child because of his impairments. This continuous harassment allegedly drove Savitri Kumar to commit the heinous act.

Amidst the police proceedings, Savitri Kumar’s statement to the press underscored the psychological turmoil she faced. She claimed the persistent prodding and callous remarks from her husband about their son’s disabilities were unbearable, leading to the fateful decision.

Authorities have charged the couple with murder as they piece together the events that led to the young boy’s death. This case has cast a spotlight on the social stigma and pressures associated with raising a child with disabilities in the region.
