WEST PALM BEACH, FL — A Florida golf course became the scene of a shocking tragedy on Monday when a man was killed with his own golf clubs in what authorities describe as a random act of violence. The suspect, Junior Boucher, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of 65-year-old Brian Hiltebeitel at Sandhill Crane Golf Club.
Witnesses described a terrifying scene as they heard Hiltebeitel shouting for help, claiming someone was trying to kill him, while he attempted to flee from Boucher.
The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department reported that Boucher pursued Hiltebeitel with a golf club, striking him in the head and chasing him toward a pond located on the course’s first hole.
According to the police, the attack did not end there. Boucher allegedly continued his assault in the water, where it appeared he was attempting to choke Hiltebeitel. After rendering Hiltebeitel motionless, Boucher reportedly struck him in the head several more times before emerging from the pond and stripping off his clothes.
Officers arrived to find Hiltebeitel with severe injuries, including multiple deep cuts to his head. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene, marking a tragic end to a routine day on the golf course.
Palm Beach Gardens Police Chief Dominick Pape recounted how Boucher was apprehended following a brief chase. It took an electronic control weapon to subdue and arrest Boucher, who was discovered naked at the time of his capture.
The relationship, if any, between Boucher and Hiltebeitel remains unclear. Pape stated there appears to be no connection between the two, suggesting the attack was unprovoked and that Boucher had no legitimate reason to be at the golf course that day.
Further complicating the case, police revealed that Boucher’s family had reported him missing approximately an hour before the deadly incident occurred. His criminal record, which includes prior arrests for drug-related offenses and domestic violence, is now under scrutiny as the investigation continues to unfold.
